What is Dnow? It is part sleepover, part camp for students. One of the best parts is the college/young adult leaders who come to spend time with our small groups. Each small group of like gender and age students stay in 'host homes' in our community. This year we are studying about Surrender in the following areas: Stuff, Sin, Status and Self. We also will have a team movie making competition, fun group games, great worship band and speaker. All of this is packed into Friday night through Sunday morning!
Cost: First timer rate $40; Regular Rate $45, $25 each additional child. Full and Partial scholarships available upon request when completing registration form.

Student Registration Cost is $45 per student and $25 for each additional family member. Scholarships are available for those that would like to attend but the cost is the issue.
Volunteer Signup We need your help! Look over the list of need areas and select those that fit the best.
What Are You Holding On To? Surrender typically implies weakness, loss and defeat. Can you actually gain something by giving up? Jesus said that the only way to truly live is to fully surrender your life to Him.In these four challenging sessions, students share real-life stories about their own struggles and triumphs in surrendering to Christ. Francis Chan examines Scripture to show students that it is only through surrendering to God that they can become who God wants them to be. SURRENDER!
Okay, we all know what the holiday will be like. Lots of food, football on television, odd ancient relatives with more hair coming out of their ears than on their head, and, between the kisses from over-perfumed aunties, lots of boredom.
But did you ever think that maybe this holiday YOU could make a difference on the enjoyment meter? We know that the tendency is for you to disappear into your own world on your smartphone or portable computer thingy, or just hang with your dopy cousins and be bored together. So, these ideas will help make your Thanksgiving the best one you’ve ever experienced and endear you to your family members.
• Ask older people to tell you stories about their life. What was living on a farm like? What was life like for you during the war? What was it like to use a pay phone? How was being a teenager in those days different than today? Did you really see the Beatles play live? Etc. You might find hidden treasure sitting on your living room sofa!
• Be the designated photographer. Shoot photos of family members – especially the ones you don’t see often. Get everyone’s e-mail address and email copies of your photos to everyone.
• Clear the table, do the dishes, take out the trash – but do it intentionally. Recast yourself as the “Busboy” – you’re trying to BLESS the adults, so take the initiative and get things cleaned up before anyone can even ask to do it. You’ll be amazed at how much fun you can have doing these kinds of chores with a go-for-it attitude!
• If someone beats you to the Busboy job, then you choose to be the “Waiter” or “Waitress.” Refill people’s drinks, bring out more appetizers, ask whether anyone needs anything… all the actions that good waiter or waitress would do to earn a tip – but you do it to bless everyone else!
• If people will be watching football, volunteer to make things a little more interesting. Here’s an idea to try: take “bets” on the game (not just win/lose, but maybe point spread, or will this next play be a run or a pass, etc.) Figure out a way to track the standings of the participants. The grand winner gets his or her car washed by you!
• Organize some Thanksgiving games for the little kids. The adults will think you’re a hero! Here are some ideas:
• Pin the Tail on the Turkey
• Turkey Trivia (You can find Thanksgiving trivia or quizzes online.)
• Create a flag-football game with the little kids that you play in the backyard.
• Play “Marco-Turkey” – it’s like “Marco Polo” that you play in a swimming pool, but you play this in the garage or smaller roped off area. Blindfold one “Pilgrim” who has to tag the “turkeys” (the other kids who are crawling around on all fours.
We will not be meeting on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, but we will be having some stuff to do over the break!

What a great week! Here is some of the fun captured on video!
We are having some great times at camp. One of the great blessings of my life is to see ‘alumni’ spend a week pouring out their lives into the current students. Why do they do this? Because of past leaders who were meaningful to them, and they said in their heart ‘when I am older, I want to be that person’. Thanks for Leigh Smith, Lexie McMakin, Lydia Pettiet, Emily Gentle, Jace Williamson, Chris Burge, Sam Smither and Ethan Dyer. I am so proud of you and you challenge me by your faith.
Today is Jeff Burge and Stephanie Burge's 21st anniversary that they are celebrating at camp. They have been coming to camp with us for 11 years! If I have never said it in the past 11 years, 'thanks!' Very thankful for the team of adults who work sunup to way past sundown to make this week possible for our 127 students. Jeff and Stephanie Burge, Dennis and Katherine Smith, Shannon Morgan, Susan Lafollett, and Vicki Gibson. By the way, my wife is amazing. The work she does behind the scenes in organizing all of the stuff from snacks to crafts is wonderful.
All is going well….taking a couple of minutes to update from the firs couple days of here. I am uploading some recreation pics that show some of the fun….but there is more going on than that! If you dont see your kid….please dont worry that they are not here or participating, they are.
We are allowing JH students to use their phones after dinner tonight….so you might get a call.
I will tell you this….seeing a group of ‘tough guys’ cry because of what God is speaking to them is one of the coolest things to experience.
The cost for one Student is $185,
discounts for multiple children, full and partial scholarships available to all.
Students can also serve at Summit Camp as staffers, at the various other weeks they offer. Here is the info to apply to be a staffer. Griff will be attending KBA Week in August 1-6 for any students that want to serve at that week. Summit Staffer info
as of 10pm on Wednesday, June 8

With the end of the school year and so much going on…we will not have any more Friday morning breakfasts for JH or HS.
However, we are looking for a date for cookout event to close the school year, stay tuned.
We are looking for Host Homes for our summer PEAK group! This group will meet on Wednesday nights throughout the summer from 7-9pm. This summer we are going to work through the book Crazy Love. We have ordered a supply of the books available for $7 each. PEAK Book Club will be open to JH and HS students unless there is a need to create two separate groups.
We have the following dates available: June 29, July 6, 13, 20, 27, Aug 3, 10, 17. Please contact griff@fbcva.com for more info.
June Wednesday night schedule:
This past Wednesday night, we had a special guest speaker. Kayla Duren, a VAHS alumni spoke to the students about her coming to faith and her personal journey. As part of that journey she has felt called to serve in missions. She is preparing for her second journey to Africa to partner with International Mission Board missionaries and former FBCVA youth pastor Chris and Shelley Riggs. She is preparing to leave coming week.
We are asking students to help support her in this mission and outreach by helping pay for a 'dress’ that she will be giving to African girls. By sponsoring one dress for $20 it will help her on her mission. We are asking students to bring 5$ this Sunday to join with others in this cause.
We can follow her blog and support her in prayer over the next two months….stepintoafrica.blogspot.com
